Betsie Larkin + HONEYLOVE

Meet Betsie Larkin, the CEO and Founder of HONEYLOVE - a company that makes Sculptwear - next-generation shapewear for women. Prior to starting HONEYLOVE, Betsie worked as a songwriter and live performer. She's toured all around the world, teaming up with artists like Armin van Buuren, Ferry Corsten and many more.

Why do you do what you do?

I love creating things - whether it's music or a better shapewear - I get a huge amount of enjoyment out of working hard and then having something tangible to share with the world. I think I got into the shapewear market specifically because I experienced some unpleasant wardrobe malfunctions with competing products while I was on stage, and knew that there had to be a solution to the waistband rolling, legs cutting in and overall ineffectiveness. I took two years together with two brilliant sample makers and we created shapewear 2.0.

What is the best compliment you've ever received?

I'm lucky to have a husband who frequently tells me that I have everything it takes to run my own company. It's so challenging when you're starting out and jumping over hurdles one after the next, so having someone who is close to you who is a true believer is a huge help.

Where do you thrive?

I'm very persistent. When I set my mind to something I will systematically go after it until I either get it, or I've exhausted every option. Usually even when I don't get what I want, there's still an equally good outcome that comes as a result of the effort I've put in.

What's the quirkiest part of your weekly routine?

I don't know if it's quirky, but I meditate every morning for 20 minutes. It really helps with seeing the big picture and reminds me to enjoy the journey.

If you could only have one app on your phone, what would it be?

Google maps - I use it almost every day to find the shortest route to wherever I'm going. As much as I love them, I could get by without most of the others.

What's the biggest lesson you learned this past year?

If you see a negative thought pattern, recognize it and challenge it. We can overcome almost every challenge if we give ourselves more credit.
