Growth Mode with Katy Lynch
Meet Katy. Katy Lynch is the co-founder and CMO of Codeverse, the world's first full interactive coding school and educational tech platform for kids, founded with the mission to teach one billion kids to code. Before Codeverse, Katy was the CEO of Techweek, the nation's largest traveling technology festival, as well as the President and Co-founder of SocialKaty, a full service social media marketing agency that was acquired in 2014.
Why do you do what you do?
In this digital day and age, kids are growing up with technology at their fingertips. It is crucial for the next generation to have a solid understanding of how technology actually works, since it greatly impacts the world around them.
I believe that every child should learn to code. Coding teaches kids all about problem solving, computational thinking, critical thinking, independence, teamwork and collaboration, and other social skills. Not to mention, when kids become adults, coding is an extremely valuable asset when it comes to applying for jobs.
What is one thing you hope never changes?
How curious, confident, open-minded, and creative kids are. I hope this never changes.
Kids take risks (and are willing to make mistakes) in a way that adults don't. This is because adults fear the consequences of failure. As adults, we need to continue to support young children and encourage them that it's OK to fail, learn from mistakes, and move on.
When do you feel most alive?
When I know that I'm making a difference in the world.
What are you really good at, but kind of embarrassed that you're so good at it?
Soulcycle. I'm really, really good at "tapping it back".
What's the hardest lesson you've had to learn?
That shit happens (and sometimes it's completely out of our control..)
What's the title of the current chapter of your life?
