Val Emanuel + Role Models Management

At the age of two, Val was scouted at a mall in Los Angeles, and has been working in the entertainment industry ever since. Her commercial credits include Nike, Old Navy and Target, and in 2015 after shooting Straight Outta Compton, she put her career on hold to finish her degree in Art History and take time for her family. Val has promoted environmental awareness, and animal activism since her early teens. In 2016 she graced billboards across America in the Let’s Recycle Right campaign. When an email linked Val with her co-founder Therese, it was clear that Role Models needed to happen and, with their unique strength,  the journey began.

Why do you do what you do?

I am a natural born sales person so being an agent just comes naturally to me.  When I got back into modeling at 18 I would be on set of music videos and commercials scouting models and sending them to my old agents at Ford and Wilhelmina, when it finally occurred to me that I belonged on the other side running things, racking in the bucks!

What is the best compliment you've ever received?

That my clients really do feel respected. It was something I could rarely say while I was on the other side as a model, so the fact that I can make my clients feel safe helps me justify working in this crazy business.

Where do you thrive?

Home, in Malibu, CA. It is an escape from the City. I live in a small ranch style home three acres across from the Malibu pier with an orchard, a garden and my wonderful little family. Growing up I could not even afford to eat here so I am constantly realizing how far I have come, even when I'm stuck in bumper to bumper traffic on PCH #TooBlessedToBeStressed

What's the quirkiest part of your weekly routine?

Probably my model meetings. I love when the girls and guys come to check in! Our office is a family affair so you'll often see a babies, a dog or my mom there making it hella awkward to take bikini digitals, but I would not have it any other way.

If you could only have one app on your phone, what would it be?

ARE WE KIDDING?! INSTAGRAM! DUH! THAT'S MONEY FOR US AS AGENTS! (And the best talent scouting tool!)

What's the biggest lesson you learned this past year?

Slow and steady wins the race in most cases, but it doesn't hurt to sprint when you see the right opportunity!
